FIS officialises new programme for La Thuile
It had been known for a few weeks by now: the International Ski & Snowboard Federation has chosen La Thuile for the eventual replays. However, Peter Gerdol, race director of the Women's World Cup, wanted to wait for the Kvitfjell downhill to define which additional event should be assigned to the Aosta Valley resort, which was already on the calendar with a downhill and a Super-G.
With the two downhill races on the Olympiabakken slope in Kvitfjell running smoothly, the only women's speed race not yet held is the Super-G in Sankt Moritz scheduled for mid-December. Having made the necessary assessments, analysed the scenario and heard the opinion of Infront and the organising committee, the FIS has now made the new programme official in La Thuile, the last stage of the women's circuit before the World Cup Finals.
On Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 March the time trials are confirmed, on Thursday 13 the downhill will be run, which is thus brought forward by one day compared to the original calendar. The recovery Super-G has been placed on Friday 14, while the Super-G already assigned in La Thuile remains on Saturday 15.
The wait gets even bigger and more interesting. Part of the official programme has changed, but the spectacle and adrenalin will increase, because the champion Federica Brignone - who lives in nearby La Salle - will even have three races in front of the Italian public, ready to support her and cheer her on in the downhill in which she will wear the red leader's bib and in the two super-Gs that will also be crucial for the speciality cup.
With the new programme being made official for organisational reasons, the committee has made all the necessary adjustments to accommodate an extra race. On the VivaTicket portal, chosen for the sale of grandstand tickets, tickets are available for the downhill on Thursday 13 March; the last coupons remain for the Super-G on Friday 14 March, while those for the other Super-G on Saturday 15 are sold out.
In La Thuile, however, there will also be an elevated area with free admission, which does not require a ticket or reservation. Access will be free while places are available; even those who do not have a ticket will be able to attend the Super-G show.
